How do you sew two pieces of leather together?
Simply apply a line of tape between the two pieces of leather you want to sew, placing the tape along the edge of your leather, within what will be the seam allowance. Then sew your seam, and the tape will remain inside the seam allowance (no need to try to remove it).
What size needles for hand sewing leather?
Leather needles are traditionally known as Glovers needles. This pack contains size 3, 5 and 7 with size 3 being the largest and size 7 being the finest.
How do you punch through thick leather?
Hold your awl straight up and down, and hit it gently with your mallet. Punch over a poundo board or other soft surface so you don’t damage the tip of the awl. This process can be a bit tedious, but it allows you to create smaller holes than you can with the stitching chisel, and punch through tougher leather.
What needles to use for leather?
The R point Groz-Beckert needle is a great needle for leather, as long as it is under 4 oz. The R point is considered “sharp” and can punch through materials of all types quite easily. When stitching on thicker pieces of leather, we recommend using a cutting point needle.
