How much does it take to tailor a suit?
It costs anywhere from $40-$400 for a suit to get tailored. This is a big range because it depends on how much tailoring is required and who you go to for tailoring. The local tailor will be a lot more affordable than a special, high-end tailor.
Can a tailor make a suit slim fit?
A slim-fitting suit that fits the contours of the body more closely has a clean, tailored look. You can alter a suit to your proportions and save money by not having to buy a new one. Have someone else (preferably a tailor) measure your chest, arms, inseam, waist and neck.
How many inches can suit pants be taken in?
The waist of a pair of trousers can be let in or taken out 2-3″. Look inside the seat for extra fabric at the waistband – this, minus half an inch or so, is as far as you can take the pants out. Trousers are easily shortened, but lengthening them requires fabric at the hems.

How much can a suit jacket be let out?
Typically, suit jackets have enough seam allowance to allow for 1 – 1.5” of added or reduced length. Exactly how much your sleeves can be adjusted is based on where the buttons on the cuff are placed and if you are willing to pay the added cost in relocating buttons and buttonholes.
Can a tailor make a coat smaller?
Can coats be adjusted a full size by a tailor? No. There is too much to be done. The most difficult thing for a tailor to alter on any suit-like garment (that is, any garment that is considered “constructed” because it has some kind of stiffening inside it) is the shoulders.
How should a suit fit?
The seam that connects the shoulders to the arms of the jacket is a reliable indicator for fit. Basically, the seam should be at the edge of your shoulder, right where it slopes down to your arm. The shoulders on a suit should be flat and smooth. You don’t want any rumpled fabric or creases.
